Russian and Turkish representatives met in Moscow Tuesday, on a potential safe sea corridor in the Black Sea, to export grain from Ukraine. Turkey’s defense ministry issued a statement June 22 saying the Azov Concord, a Turkish dry cargo vessel, had successfully departed the port, the first foreign ship to do so since Feb. 24.
Turkey has also announced its intent to hold a four-way meeting next week on safe passage for shipping in the Black Sea, with Russia, Ukraine, and the United Nations.
Among the vocal opponents is the Wall Street Journal, whose June 21 article complained that the United States should be organizing a “naval coalition of the willing” to ensure Ukrainian grain gets through, and should spoil the Russia-Turkey efforts.
