On June 21, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Knoshenkov reported that Ukrainian forces had attempted to seize Snake Island, occupied since early in the Russian special military operation, but failed miserably. “June 20, around 5:00 am, the Kyiv regime made another crazy attempt to seize Serpent Island,” Konshenkov said. “Russian air defense systems shot down all enemy weapons: 13 unmanned aerial vehicles, 4 Tochka-U missiles and 21 missiles of the Uragan multiple launch rocket system. None of the Ukrainian weapons reached the target on Zmeiny Island. The failed fire defeat forced the enemy to abandon the landing on the island.”
Konashenkov also noted that Russian air defense systems detected a U.S. Air Force RQ-4 “Global Hawk” drone in the air space over the Black Sea south of Ukraine. It is not known whether the Global Hawk was involved in the Ukrainian operation, but they’re frequently visible on publicly available flight tracking websites.
