Former Secretary of Defense: One-China Policy Has 'Outlived Its Usefulness'

“It is my personal view that the one-China policy has outlived its usefulness, that it is time to move away from strategic ambiguity,” said Mark Esper in a meeting with Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen in her office on Tuesday. Esper, who served as Secretary of Defense under the Trump administration, and has been the close pal of maniac Mike Pompeo since West Point days, is on a four-day trip to Taiwan. “Strategic ambiguity” is the policy under which Washington does not directly explain how it would respond to a military operation by the mainland to reunify with Taiwan.
