Following the farmers’ protests in the Netherlands, farmers in Germany could soon take to the streets again in large numbers. Anthony Robert Lee, spokesman for the protest movement “Agriculture Unites Germany” (Landwirtschaft verbindet Deutschland, LSVD) said in an July 17 interview with the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung that there had not yet been any major rallies, because many farmers have been busy with the harvest. However, he said, people are on the verge of protesting again. “It is boiling,” Lee said, referring to the combination of the poor yield situation and the simultaneously increasing costs and requirements for farmers. “We will definitely take to the streets, and the protest will be very loud. We’re resisting being shut down.” Where, when and in what form the protest will take place, however, he left open. German farmers had already shown national solidarity with their professional colleagues throughout the Federal Republic.
