National Public Radio ended a tradition it began in 1988 — the annual Fourth of July reading of the Declaration of Independence. An NPR host tweeted: “This July 4th we break with tradition. Instead of a reading of the Declaration of Independence @NPRinskeep examines what equality means and has meant in this document. Important segment about our past and future...” Wouldn’t it be more effective to discuss “what equality ... has meant in this document” if the document itself were included?
