Rotten SPD Leadership Wants Schröder Out, but Rank and File Want Him To Stay

The SPD arbitration committee in Hanover did not reach an agreement yesterday on whether to expel former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder from the party, over his ties to Russia. Formal requests were filed by 17 parties. Deliberations will continue today. According to Hanover, SPD managing director Christoph Matterne said that while “the SPD top brass want Schröder out, many party members are with Schröder. “They say if GS is expelled, then it’s the end of the road for me as well after 40 years,” according to Euroactiv.

This is further evidence of how the political leadership in Germany (and in the EU) is detached from reality.
