Government daily Rossiyskaya Gazeta reported yesterday that the Director of the National Energy Security Fund of Russia Konstantin Simonov stated that the EU’s greenie energy transition strategy had created huge gaps for those countries, “which have to be plugged with money. Each of these actions demands additional billions of euros, which not everybody has. This can lead to a rise in energy poverty and Europe’s segregation along economic lines.” Simonov added: “If common sense does not prevail in Europe, which I am very much hoping for, then centrifugal forces may intensify, and then the attempts of countries to leave the EU are quite possible.”
Similarly, Izvestia reported that the First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma (the lower house of the Federal Assembly) Foreign Affairs Committee Alexey Chepa stated: “It is Europe that is suffering the most from the sanctions war. The cynical attitude of European politicians towards their own people is incredible. We can see inflation rates and prices soaring. Apart from economic problems, political issues are also emerging as government officials are stepping down in a number of Western countries,” he added.
