Italian farmers’ associations have reported that due to the extreme drought, Italy has already lost 30% of its agriculture production. And on July 25-30 there will be no more water for irrigation in Lombardy, chairman Attilio Fontana declared.

In this context, the largest Italian construction and engineering company, Webuild, has launched a project to defeat the water crisis with a network of desalination plants. Webuild proposes to invest 2.5-3 billion Euro in building 16 desalination plants that would fill the gap of 2.9 billion cubic meter water yearly. Such middle-sized plants would be operational in two years. Webuild head Antonio Salini said the group will soon present a project to the government under the headline “Water For Life.”
