The California Independent System Operator (ISO) issued a statewide “flex alert” on Aug. 17, with directives for people to cut electricity use, to prevent blackouts. The orders were voluntary, but with repeated high summer temperatures ahead, and insufficient power generation, nobody’s taking it easy, and more directives are expected any time.
