China’s PLA announced today that they had ended the military maneuvers around the island of Taiwan. Other maneuvers in the Yellow Sea and the Bohai Sea are still ongoing throughout the week. They also indicated that similar maneuvers around the island would become more regular features of PLA operations. Speaking on Aug. 10, Defense Ministry spokesman Tan Kefei emphasized the PLA’s readiness to defend the sovereignty of the nation. “At present, cross-Strait relations are once again faced with two choices for the future. The Taiwan authorities must make the right choice as to where to go,” remarked Tan.
