Following up on Nancy Pelosi’s provocation against Chinese sovereignty over Taiwan, five members of Congress landed in Taipei today for a two-day visit. Democratic Sen. Ed Markey of Massachusetts heads the delegation, which will meet senior Taiwan leaders. The American Institute, the unofficial representative of the U.S. in Taiwan, issued a statement announcing the visit, which includes Republican Rep. Aumua Amata Coleman Radewagen from American Samoa, and Democratic House members John Garamendi and Alan Lowenthal from California and Don Beyer from Virginia.

The visits will further aggravate the deteriorating relations between the U.S. and China, while the suicidal “decoupling” of the U.S. economy from China is having the same impact as the massive sanctions against Russia: the further destruction of the U.S. and EU economies, and famine and death to much of the Global South.
