Senior South African MP Lectures Washington about Pelosi Visit, Ahead of Blinken’s Arrival in South Africa

With U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken descending on South Africa Aug. 7-9, Cape Town scored a direct hit on his agenda even before he arrives. MP Cedric Frolick, of the ruling ANC who has been in Parliament for almost 20 years, is reported by People’s Daily Online on Aug. 5 to have denounced U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan as a clear intrusion into Chinese domestic affairs, on Aug. 2.

“Frolick maintained that South Africa will continue, as it has stated in the past, to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the People’s Republic of China. South Africa will uphold the one-China principle, and believes that there is only one China in the world,” People’s Daily Online reported. “In that respect, the government of China is in Beijing, and it is led by the Communist Party of China,’ he added.”
