Syria, once again, has called on the Secretary General of the United Nations and the UN Security Council to issue a clear and explicit condemnation of Israeli strikes on Syrian territory, reported the official SANA on Aug. 27. The latest Israeli airstrike was Aug. 25, with significant damage to a science complex.
“Syria stresses [it is] reserving the right to respond by appropriate means that are granted by international law and the Charter of the United Nations in the face of these repeated Israeli aggressions,” the Foreign and Expatriates Ministry said, in a letter addressed to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and the President of the Security Council (China’s Ambassador Zhang Jun) on Saturday, Aug. 27, since these aggressions constitute a deliberate and repeated violation of the sovereignty of a member state of the United Nations and a direct threat to regional and international peace and security.
The Israeli occupation is determined today more than ever to adopt a serious and aggressive escalation policy based on targeting civilian facilities, sabotaging infrastructure and endangering the lives of civilians, the ministry said.
