U.S. Military Operation To Aid Ukraine to Get a Name and a Commander

The Biden Administration plans to give America’s ever-growing training and weapons program for Ukraine a name, and appoint a general officer to command it, the Wall Street Journal reported Aug. 24, in the context of its coverage of President Biden’s announcement of the new, nearly $3 billion several year-long military aid package for Ukraine.

The report came from unnamed Pentagon sources. The Wall Street daily noted that “the naming of the operation formally recognizes the U.S. effort within the military and typically entails long-term, dedicated funding and the possibility of special pay, ribbons and awards for service members participating in the effort.”
