China on G7 Oil Price Cap Against Russia: Don’t Play Games with Energy Supply

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning was asked today about the Group of 7’s recent effort, organizing a bloc of oil-purchasers, to dictate to Russia at what price they will be allowed to sell their oil. She explained: “Oil is a global commodity. Ensuring global energy supply security is vitally important. We hope relevant countries will make constructive efforts to help ease the situation through dialogue and consultation, instead of doing the opposite.”

It is hard to imagine the G7 countries putting much of a hold on Russia’s oil trade if China refuses to cooperate.
