EU Climbs the Walls About Reality of BRI in Latin America and Caribbean

According to Railfreight.com on August 31, there is major alarm in EU headquarters about the growing global importance of China’s BRI and the loss of political influence of the EU. A document by the EEAS (European External Action Service) on the supposed dangers of China’s and Russia’s growing influence in Latin America, leaked to Spanish paper El Pais, says: “China is the first or second most important trading partner of Latin American and Caribbean countries, displacing the EU and surpassing the United States in many countries.” Then, railfreight.com reports: “Moreover, the document warned that the EU should take immediate action to restore its regional influence by launching more investments. For instance, an investment plan of 8 billion euros is promoted for allocation in South America, with transport and infrastructure gradually becoming the tool for increased political sovereignty.”
