Following the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit Sept. 15-16, which saw Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Xinping further affirm the strength of their relationship, Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolay Patrushev had meetings today with China’s leading foreign policy official, Yang Jiechi. They reportedly discussed far-ranging subjects of collaboration, repeatedly stressing the solidarity of the Russian and Chinese nations and the “explosive development” of their relationship. Yang is a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee.
BBC and other media had attempted to fabricate alleged differences between the two countries over the Ukraine situation, which was again disproven by the Patrushev-Yang talks.
The Russian Security Council summary of the meeting included the commitments to collaboration among the military, the General Staffs, and joint exercises, as well as “maintaining a high level of military-technical cooperation.” The other areas of collaboration included law enforcement and anti-terrorism, drug and money laundering related to terrorism, countering extremism, information security, and countering “attempts from outside to undermine the constitutional order of both countries and deprive Russia and China of the opportunity to pursue an independent foreign policy that meets national interests.”
