The US Congress is getting ready to pump more money into the sinkhole that is the neo-Nazi Kiev regime in Ukraine. Reuters reported yesterday that Congressional negotiators on a temporary spending bill to keep the government open past Sept. 30, have agreed to include nearly $12 billion in new military and economic aid to Ukraine. The $12 billion responds to a request from the White House made a couple of weeks ago for $11.7 billion more in US aid to the Kiev regime. Unnamed Congressional sources told Reuters that the funding would include $4.5 billion to provide defense capabilities and equipment for Ukraine, as well as $2.7 billion to continue military, intelligence, and other defense support. It also will include $4.5 billion to continue to provide direct budget support to the Kyiv government through the next quarter.
What opposition there is to the amendment, coming from the 57 House Republicans and the 11 GOP senators who voted against the $40 billion aid package last spring, centers on the lack of time to debate the measure and the fact that there is still no oversight function in place to account for the $15 billion that’s already been spent. “There’s no limiting principle. So no, count me against throwing more money at Ukraine without having a serious conversation about guns and butter, a serious conversation about why we’re spending it and how it’s in our national security interest,” Rep. Chip Roy (R-Tex.) was quoted saying in a recent Politico article.
In a separate, but related authorization request, a U.S. official said the Biden administration also planned to ask Congress for an additional $3.6 billion in Presidential Drawdown Authority, which allows the president to authorize the transfer of excess weapons from U.S. stocks.
