CBS News issued a report on Friday morning, Oct. 21, getting worldwide attention, that the U.S. Army’s 101st Airborne Division is ready to enter Ukraine in case of “further tensions”—itself a menacing implication—between Moscow and Kiev, or an attack on a NATO member state. This division currently has troops in Romania, and its officers are quoted in the CBS release. CBS reports it was embedded with the 101st, “to the very edge of NATO territory—only around three miles from Romania’s border with Ukraine.”
