India, China, and Russia, Plus 24 Other Countries, Form CICA into New International Body

Back in 1992, then-Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev initiated an inter-governmental forum for enhancing cooperation towards promoting peace, security and stability in Asia. It became known as the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA). Today, at its 6th Summit, meeting in Astana, Kazakhstan, the members established themselves as an international organization. Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev declared “the Astana statement on the transformation of CICA adopted.” (http://en.kremlin.ru/supplement/5852 )

Further, on the sidelines of the summit, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed by CICA Executive Director Kairat Sarybay and the Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) Mikhail Myasnikovich, for increasing cooperation between the two organizations. CICA’s actions today have positioned it for a timely contribution to Asia’s critical role in the new multipolar world. (https://www.s-cica.org/index.php?view=page&t=press_releases&id=1414)
