The Political Coordination Committee of the Mexican Congress, headed by Congressman Mario Delgado of the ruling Morena party, yesterday rejected a proposal presented by PAN Congressman Santiago Creel to have Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy address a plenary session of both houses of the Mexican Congress. Creel had argued that Zelenskyy had spoken to the parliaments of many European countries, and even to a joint session of Congress in the United States.
The Mexican Congress was apparently unimpressed. Creel was told that the international diplomatic implications of such a presentation would have to be studied in depth before it could be approved, and they suggested that he discuss the matter further with Mexico’s ambassador to the UN – which political media in Mexico considered a not-so-polite brush off.
