Putin at Valdai: Multipolarity and Sovereignty Can Even Benefit And Save the West

The West and its allies are playing a “dirty game,” where the prize is global dominance, asserted Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, addressing the Valdai Discussion Club today. As reported by RT, Putin explained that the US and its allies are not safe from the consequences of their own actions. “Power over the world is what the West has put at stake in the game it plays. This game is certainly dangerous, bloody and I would call it dirty.”

The West prohibits other countries from any sort of independence - political, economic or cultural. They “tossed aside” Russia’s considered proposals on national security last December, feeling no need to even address them. Avoiding realities won’t work. “But in the modern world, sitting aside is hardly an option. He who sows the wind will reap the whirlwind, as the proverb says.” The reality of the present global crisis is unavoidable and affects everyone.

So, humanity has to choose from two paths. As RT described it, either to be “fractured and keep accumulating problems that will eventually bury it, or try to find ‘maybe not ideal, but working’ solutions to common issues.” Eventually, quoting Putin, “new centers of power in the multipolar world and the West will have to start talking as equals about our common future.”

Having given the West a cold bath of reality, he explained the unappreciated benefits of multipolarity. The West tries to impose their values unilaterally, but that robs everyone, notably including themselves. “First of all, this eradicates the creative potential of the West itself.”
