Taiwan Supporters Looking to U.S. Arming of Ukraine as Model

In an exceptionally provocative move, supporters of Taiwan are looking to the U.S. arming and training of Ukrainian forces for war against Russia as the model to be applied to the U.S. backing of Taiwan. “That’s obviously had a significant impact on how the Ukrainian forces have performed but also the ability, for the two sides, to communicate,” U.S.-Taiwan Business Council President Rupert Hammond-Chambers told the closing session of the U.S.-Taiwan Defense Industry conference in Richmond, Virginia, yesterday, according to a report in Taiwan Focus. That is why the U.S. and Taiwan will soon expand their existing training programs, as much more “substantive training” in the U.S.-Taiwan relationship is needed, he said. “And that’s going to happen. We’re not quite sure how it’s going to look. But as time progresses, we’re going to see far more communication and training between the two sides. And that’s a great development,” he said.
