According to Rosatom, the main construction phase for the second unit of Egypt’s El-Dabaa nuclear power plant has begun, with the first pouring of concrete. Russia will build the reactor and supply fuel for its entire lifecycle, and support Egypt in the plant’s operation for its first ten years.
A South Korean firm, meanwhile, has won the contract to build the turbine system.
All told, the El-Dabaa plant will have four 1.2-gigawatt reactors, for a total power rating of 4.8 GW.
