For Boris Johnson, Germany Is Not Hawkish Enough

Boris Johnson charged in an interview with CNN two days ago that, whereas the UK always had the view that Ukraine had to be helped to win the war against Russia, Germany wanted an early end of the war at the expense of the Ukrainians. Some in the German mainstream media, led by Bildzeitung, have joined the side of Johnson against German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

German government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit (50) brusquely rejected Johnson’s claims. The “very entertaining former prime minister” had “always had his own relationship with the truth,” he said in Berlin yesterday, adding that this case was “no different.” Johnson’s statements were “utter nonsense,” Hebestreit said in English..
