Al Jazeera and Sputnik reported on protests in the capital city of Accra in the Republic of Ghana held on Saturday, Nov. 5. Sputnik noted that this follows on previous demonstrations: “on August 3, several thousand demonstrators were chanting “Fix the economy” on the capital’s streets, while on June 28-29, protesters demanded better living conditions and fuel price reductions.”

Over a thousand peaceful demonstrators gathered to protest the deepening economic crisis, and demanded that not only the government stop negotiating with the IMF, but that the government itself resign, led by President Nana Akufo-Addo.

Consumer inflation topped out at 37% in September, and at the same time, its cedi currency plunged over 40% against the dollar during 2022.
