On Nov. 27, the Iranian parliament voted overwhelmingly to pass a bill authorizing Iran’s membership and participation with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO); the vote was 203 for, 3 against, and 4 abstaining, as reported by the Tehran Times.
Although Iran was admitted as a member of the SCO in mid-September during the 21st Summit of the SCO, held in the Tajik capital of Dushanbe, the approval of the parliament was needed to authorize the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran to sign and accept dozens of SCO agreements and documents.
