Activists of the doomsday sect “Last Generation,” which takes its name from the belief that the world will go under tomorrow or the day after, because of the destroyed climate, blocked the international airport of Berlin yesterday. Gluing themselves to the runway, as they have done many times on roads and highways particularly in Berlin in the past months, they paralyzed all air flights for about one hour, until police unglued and arrested them.
Their action earned criticism from across the party landscape, but harsh punishment has been recommended only by the opposition Christian Democrats, whereas politicians of the other parties distanced themselves from the group, but remained vague as to what the official response to the blockade would be.
