On ABC’s “This Week with George Stephanopoulos” Sunday talk show, Texas Republican Rep. Michael McCaul, who will head the House Foreign Affairs Committee next year, said that Ukraine “100%” needs longer-range artillery from the U.S. Although McCaul also repeated that Congress “will not write a blank check for Ukraine,” he gave zero indication that they would actually try to cool out the conflict—quite the contrary.
“My criticism of this administration was before the invasion. We wouldn’t put weapons in. And since the invasion, we slow-walked this process,” McCaul said Nov. 27. Ukraine won’t be able to fight Russia effectively “unless they have the longer-range artillery called the ATACMS,” he added. ATACMS are the next level missiles which Ukraine has requested, and has so far been refused by the U.S. They have a range of nearly 200 miles, and would reach deep into Russian territory.
