Russian Ambassador to UN Documents Ukrainian Torture of POWs

Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzya told a UN Security Council meeting yesterday that “we have more and more evidence that the Ukrainian side practices torture in violation of the 1949 Geneva Conventions.”

According to a report in TASS, Nebenzya said that Russian soldiers released from captivity confirm that militants from the Right Sector ultra-nationalist armed group execute prisoners by hanging. He added that investigators from the Lugansk People’s Republic had arrived at a conclusion that those killed had upper parts of their ears cut off and their legs shot through while they were still alive. Some Russian captives had to lie in pits covered with soil for five hours.
