Russian Envoy to Washington Says Ordinary Americans Are Like Ordinary Russians, They Want Peace

Moscow will never allow new security threats to grow along the perimeter of Russia’s borders. “Russia will never accept a situation where new threats will grow along the perimeter of our borders and security will weaken,” Russian Ambassador to the U.S. Anatoly Antonov told Izvestia in an interview yesterday, reported TASS. “All we want is to live peacefully, develop our economy and political system. Russia does not impose its values on anyone and would like to see the same in return. We have a unique culture, history and customs. A huge number of nationalities. Talented people. All of this is our wealth. And we are ready to fight for it.”

“We will not allow evil to triumph over good. Ordinary Americans, just like Russians, think about their well-being, their peaceful lives, their families,” he stressed. “None of them wants war. Americans are more concerned about the price of bread, gas, and utility bills. Most of them do not understand why huge funds are spent not inside the country, not for the good of ordinary citizens, but for far away Ukraine.”

But Antonov warned against “stirring the pot” in Ukraine. “We are firmly convinced that further U.S. involvement in the conflict on Ukrainian soil, with weapons, mercenaries, instructors, is not in America’s national interests. It leads Russia-U.S. relations to a stalemate from which it will be difficult for everyone to get out. We urge the politicians in Washington to stop and not stir the pot. Convey straightforward instructions to your subordinates in Kiev that any armed confrontation with Russia is doomed,” Antonov stressed.

Antonov pointed out the reality: “if the Americans really wanted to end the conflict on Ukrainian soil, they could do so with a snap of their fingers. Kiev, which has long lost its sovereignty, would not dare disobey instructions from Washington. However, this is not happening. The Zelenskyy regime continues to be pushed to make belligerent statements and increase military action.”
