According to an account in RT, China’s Global Times reported that a key part of the East Route pipeline supplying Russian natural gas to China, and to Shanghai in particular, has been completed. This is a 10 km tunnel under the Yangtze River, which took 28 months to construct and will hold three natural gas pipelines, each 1.4 meters in diameter. RT recalls that “the East Route natural gas pipeline was partially launched in December 2019, thus becoming the first pipeline to supply Russian gas to China. It includes the 3,000 km-long Power of Siberia pipeline in Russia and a 5,111 km-long section in China.” That 2019 agreement between Russia and China was one of the cornerstones of current developments in Eurasia.
