Because of an editorial error, in the sentence reading: “Whatever one thinks of the Catholic Church, a mobilization of its 1 billion members is in part under way, including those in Central and Eastern Europe, to teach the lesson that Jesus taught Paul in the Garden of Gethsemane, when Paul cut off the ear of one of Christ’s assailants...” it should have read that Jesus taught Peter, who became the first head of the Catholic Church, was the one who cut off the ear of Jesus’ assailant, not Paul, who, of course, did not become a Christian until after the Crucifixion and Resurrection.
