New Road Segments Opened of Russian National Transport Corridors

President Vlaidmir Putin spoke by video at the ceremony to officially open new highway segments of national Russian roadway corridors on Dec. 13. He congratulated the engineers, workers, and others involved in the “number of new transport infrastructure facilities in various Russian regions,” pointing out that 2022 would “certainly set a record in the volume of asphalt paved on regional and local roads—about 165 million square meters.”

He focused on what he called “large-scale corridors.” Three segments of the Moscow-Kazan-Yekaterinburg route were noted, part of the West-East transport corridor. Putin called for a public vote for what name should be given to this corridor, which runs from St. Petersburg to Vladivostok.

He also pointed out specifics of the North-South corridor, for high-speed traffic between Moscow, going towards the Black Sea and Sea of Azov Basin. (http://en.kremlin.ru/events/president/news/70075 )
