Republicans on Twitter Revelations: Abolish the FBI

Upon the release of Twitter Files #6 on Dec. 16, Cong. James Comer (R/KY), the incoming chairman of the House Oversight Committee, responded on the Fox network “Hannity” show: “Well, this is serious, and this is going to be a top priority for Republicans on the oversight committee…. But what we found today is the FBI had its own ministry of propaganda…. Anyone that cares about free speech should be outraged. Whether you’re a Republican or a Democrat, this has to stop…. This is serious. What else are they involved in at the FBI? The entire FBI needs to be dismantled.”

Ron Paul yesterday stated that the FBI used proprietary backchannels at Twitter to infringe on Americans’ First Amendment rights and should be “abolished.” He was concerned that, though Twitter has previously skirted accusations of violating Americans’ right to free speech by arguing that it is a private corporation, the recently released internal communications between Twitter, the FBI and other agencies confirm that the platform was acting as a surrogate of the state. “We do not need the FBI and CIA and other federal agencies viewing us as the enemy and attacking our Constitution. End... the Federal Bureau of Investigation!”
