One day after Ukrainian drones hit two air bases deep inside Russia, Russian President Vladimir Putin convened a meeting of the Russian Security Council this morning to discuss “matters related to ensuring national security,” the Kremlin website reported. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov described it as a regularly scheduled meeting but said that authorities in Russia are taking all necessary measures to ensure security back home amid the continued terror attacks by the Kiev regime on Russian soil.
The latest such attack came today, hitting an oil tank at an airfield in the Kursk region. “An oil tank is on fire as a result of a drone attack near the Kursk airfield. There are no casualties. The fire is currently being localized,” the Governor of the Kursk Region, Roman Starovoit, wrote in his Telegram channel at the time of the attack.
The evidence emerging after Monday’s attacks on two Russian airfields, the Dyagilevo air base in Ryazan Region and the Engels air base in the Saratov region, is that the missiles used in the attack were Soviet-era Tu-141 reconnaissance drones which traveled almost 650 km at ultra-low altitude over Russian territory. The drones were apparently modified by the Kiev regime to carry a warhead of about 1,000 lbs and with some kind of guidance system to basically turn them into cruise missiles. The evidence of visible damage to be seen so far emerged from the Dyagilevo base, showing damage to a single Tu-22M Backfire medium bomber around the tail section. This is apparently where the casualties suffered by ground personnel also occurred. A satellite image of the Engels air base showing an impact mark on the ramp and a single Tu-95 bomber surrounded by firefighting foam has also emerged.
