Second Summit for Democracy Set For March 2023, but Who Wants To Attend?

President Joe Biden announced Nov. 29 that he will co-host the second Summit for Democracy as an online event, co-hosted with Costa Rica, the Netherlands, the Republic of Korea and the Republic of Zambia. The Summit will take place on March 29-30. The question is, who will want to attend?

The first Summit for Democracy was held in December 2021, and set out “five pillars of the Summit for Democracy’s Presidential Initiative for Democracy Renewal,” which were to be followed up over 2022 as the “Year of Action.”

The White House put out a fact sheet on Nov. 29, “Summit for Democracy: Progress in the Year of Action", to beat the drum for how much it has done for the five pillars, which are: Supporting Free and Independent Media, Fighting Corruption, Bolstering Democratic Reformers, Advancing Technology for Democracy, Defending Free and Fair Elections and Inclusive Political Processes.
