Lula Tightens Up His Security, Concerned About Assassination Potential

Brazilian President Lula da Silva announced last Friday, Jan. 13, that he had ordered a “thorough review” of the staff for Planalto (the Presidential palace), after learning that Bolsonaro supporters had entered building when they trashed the place on Jan. 8 without breaking down any doors. Lula said the obvious: the door had to have been “opened for people to enter” by someone inside, in the staff. “From now on we will be tougher, more cautious, more prudent,” he said, and any “radical ‘bolsonarista’ found still working there will be dealt with. How can I have a person outside my office who might shoot me?”
