If you think the new Republican majority will tone down the war rhetoric and increase domestic sanity, think again. The recently approved “House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition between the US and the Communist Party of China,” is one of the new pet projects of the new speaker McCarthy. It plans to “investigate and submit policy recommendations on the status of the Chinese Communist Party’s economic, technological, and security progress and its competition with the United States.”
The House voted Tuesday 365-65 in favor of the committee, with about a third of the Democrats opposing it. McCarthy has been an outspoken anti-China voice for some time, and has been working with Mike Gallagher (R-Wi), whom McCarthy chose to lead the committee.
