“When you mate with shorter people, you’re potentially saving the planet by shrinking the needs of subsequent generations,” reads a New York Times opinion essay by Mara Altman entitled “There has never been a better time to be short.”
The five-foot-tall mother brags about saving money on food and clothes for her children, and polemicizes, effectively, against those who think being shorter is a bad thing. There are definitely advantages to being smaller (airline seats, for example), but Altman pushes a “green” angle:
“[A]s resources become scarcer because of the earth’s growing population and global warming, [short people] may also be best suited for long-term survival,” she adds.
How can you help save the planet from being overrun by six-foot-tall monsters? “Lowering the height minimum for prospective partners on your dating profile is a step toward a greener planet.”
