In a step toward reversing degree inflation, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) signed an executive order ending college degree requirements for almost all jobs. “Effective immediately, 92% of state government jobs—about 65,000 positions—do not require a four-year college degree,” he announced.
This move eliminates the largely arbitrary imposition of a two-tiered system in which a college degree is seen as a requirement for success, allowing those without the family or financial support to be able successfully to devote four years to education, or those disinclined to the modern university system, the opportunity to use their talents more broadly.
