Russian President Vladimir Putin, via video link, yesterday gave a send-off to the Admiral Gorshkov frigate, which departed from its Northern Fleet base on a long-distance voyage that will take it into the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. Putin said that “there is nothing unusual here,” except that “this time the ship is equipped with the cutting-edge Zircon hypersonic missile system, which has no analogue – this is a sea-based hypersonic system – and includes other new generation weapons.”
“I know that such powerful weapons will make it possible to reliably defend Russia from potential external threats and will help ensure our national interests,” he added.
