Russia Simulates Launch of a Hypersonic Missile in the Atlantic

The Russian Navy carried out a test launch simulation of a hypersonic Tsirkon (or Zircon) missile in the Atlantic Ocean, the Russian Defense Ministry announced this morning, reported TASS. The report emphasized, so that no one could miss it, that the crew of the frigate Admiral Gorshkov “practiced hitting with a Tsirkon hypersonic missile a target simulating an enemy warship at a distance of more than 900 kilometers.”

“The crew of the frigate Admiral Gorshkov, operating in the western part of the Atlantic Ocean, trained in the use of a hypersonic missile weapon using the computer modeling method,” the Ministry stated. (https://eng.mil.ru/en/news_page/country/more.htm?id=12452441@egNews)

“Consistent with the training environment, the frigate Admiral Gorshkov made preparations for an attack with a Tsirkon hypersonic missile on a maritime target imitating an enemy ship at a distance of more than 900 km,” the report continued. “In our case, the electronic launch and the operation of the ship’s entire combat crew confirmed all the characteristics expected for this system and demonstrated during preliminary and status tests,” explained the frigate’s commander, Igor Krokhmal, in a video released by the Russian Defense Ministry.
