Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov spoke at a Feb. 11 meeting on the occasion of Diplomat’s Day in the Russian diplomatic mission, and said, “It just so happened that we live in difficult times. Our Motherland is again in danger, as it was during the Great Patriotic War. The Armed Forces defend the sovereignty and independence of Russia in a special military operation. We, who are many thousands of kilometers from our homeland, defend the interests of the Motherland in the conditions of a hybrid war unleashed against us,” he said in his speech, posted in English on the Embassy Telegram channel. He continued, “The whole Western world is fighting against us. However, it is already clear today that plans to inflict a strategic defeat on our country have been derailed. Russia, especially over the past year, has rebuilt the economy, strengthened its military potential, and stepped up cooperation with most of the states.
