French economist Pierre de Gaulle, grandson of France’s famous President, General Charles de Gaulle, spoke at a roundtable conference on World War II and the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Battle of Stalingrad, warning that the West’s decision to supply Ukraine with heavy tanks raised the risk of unleashing World War III, according to a TASS report.
“This is the abyss on the edge of which we are standing,” de Gaulle stated. “I would like to say this: the time is ripe to make peace, to reason with the Americans and to reach a stable, firm and lasting peace with Russia. It is time for France, its President [Emmanuel Macron] to recall that they are a great independent nation, and their mission is to play a worthy role. Also, it is necessary to provide Russia with serious guarantees.”
