EU Parliament Voted To Cancel Internal Combustion Engines

The European Parliament updated its record of insane decisions by voting for a ban on internal combustion engines by 2035. At that date, sale of zero-emission cars only will be allowed. The decision was taken with 340 Yes, 279 No, and 21 abstentions. Such a fundamental policy decision was therefore taken with a meager majority vote.

The vote is binding but the EU executive (the EU Commission) might review it in 2026. Furthermore, it is, as usual, not representative of national sentiments. For instance, all Italian government parties voted against, and this is probably not the only case.
