Lavrov Chides Foreign Media for Not Covering Hersh Story

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov called in the foreign press based in Moscow for a “working meeting.” He urged them to cover the news in Russia objectively and upbraided the Western media for ignoring completely the bombshell Hersh revelations. He noted how “management” of the Western media is reaching Orwellian proportions. He said that Russia was willing to work with the foreign press and will continue to organize press tours through the country in order to let them know what was going on in Russia.

Lavrov also noted how the Russian media abroad was being brutally suppressed and deprived of its liberty to report freely. He then went into the plans Russia had for bringing the Hersh revelations to the UN, calling for an investigation, in spite of the “waffling,” in spite of the UN General Secretary’s office claiming that such an investigation was not in the purview of the UN. “Seymour Hersh lists specific facts and dates when the White House and other divisions of the US administration reviewed this matter, “ Lavrov said. “His written revelations coincide with the actual events recorded at pipelines. The UN is saying that it does not have the authority to investigate. All countries through whose economic zones Nord Stream pipelines pass have been completely silent for the past six months.”

He noted that Russia had also asked Sweden and Denmark for any information they might have. But there was no reply on the matter.

Lavrov also noted that this was an attack not only against Russia, but also Germany, which had paid for its construction. “S. Hersh named the reason,” he said. The main thing was to prevent Germany from feeling in a comfortable energy zone and starting to receive gas through these two pipelines financed by companies from Russia, Germany, Austria, and Italy. “Spit in the face of many European enterprises. In the same way as many years ago it turned out that the phone of the former German Chancellor Angela Merkel was tapped by the US National Security Agency. This is a fact that does not require investigation, it was recognized by everyone. The German Chancellor behaved not like the leader of the main country of the European Union, but like the head of the government of an occupied power.”

“Now it is repeated in even more striking tones. Germany was not just humiliated, but put in its place — a satellite of the United States, which will decide whether Berlin can ensure its economic development, satisfy the social needs of citizens using gas supplied through a gas pipeline, including paid for by Germany itself. They were told to forget about the money, they were buried. US President John Biden promised in January 2022 that there would be no gas pipeline. This was also promised by US Deputy Secretary of State V. Nuland. Former British Foreign Secretary L. Truss immediately after the terrorist attack expressed her delight in social networks, R. Sikorsky (my former Polish colleague) wrote: “Thank you, USA.” Also, V. Nuland less than a month ago in the US Congress said that she shares the joy of senators about the fact that these gas pipelines turned out to be “a pile of metal at the bottom of the Baltic Sea.” Is this not a confession? Not showing up red-handed?”

Lavrov lamented that none of this was being aired in the Western media. He called this media control an example of the “rules-based order” demanded by the U.S. He also noted the tremendous costs of the measures to Germany, noting that no one has yet indicated the amount of loss this has produced on the German economy and suffering for the German consumer. He said that this is always the case when the directions come from across the waters or from across the Channel. “There are many studies by those who studied the history of Europe and came to the conclusion that whenever Russia and Germany had normal relations, built joint projects in the economy, in logistics, even in military affairs, Europe lived calmer. But those who wanted to command this continent from across the ocean or from across the English Channel were more restless (this was even more relevant at many stages of historical development). They did not allow Germany to grow as a leading European power, primarily thanks to reliable Russian energy sources at absolutely acceptable, competitive prices that ensure the outstripping growth of the German economy.”
