On Feb. 17, the Russian mission to the United Nationals put out its draft of a Security Council resolution calling for an international investigation into the sabotage of the Nord Stream pipelines. “Today, we circulated a draft resolution about holding an independent inquiry under the aegis of the UN Secretary General, to look into explosions that targeted the Nord Stream. We will press for putting it to a vote next week,” Russian First Deputy Permanent Representative Dmitry Polyanskiy wrote on his Telegram channel, reported TASS. The vote on Russia’s proposed resolution is expected to take place sometime around Feb. 22-24, he said. (https://t.me/dpol_un/463 )
In Moscow, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova blasted the lack of U.S. reaction to the Seymour Hersh story during her regular briefing yesterday. “Since the investigative report and the data that have been published are of no value to the U.S. administration, they [the Americans] should present their own version. They are knee deep in it,” the diplomat said, adding that for years, Washington had been expressing interest in “making sure that this energy infrastructure project would not exist anymore.”
Zakharova further let loose on the lack of reaction to Hersh’s investigation as a conspiracy, saying that such a position adopted by the U.S. “is nothing new.”
