Ukrainian Mayor Found Guilty of Using Russian in Facebook Post

Kharkov Mayor Igor Terekhov was fined by Kiev a second time for writing on his Facebook a message in Russian, a language which is most familiar to his constituents. He was also fined earlier for the same “crime,” of using “a language other than the state one,” by Taras Kremen, the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language. The fine is 3,400 hryvnia. At that time, Terekhov then filed a lawsuit against Kremen.
