China’s Foreign Ministry on March 15 pointed out the unusual fact that major press outlets in the West have uncritically embraced a claim by unnamed U.S. officials that a “pro-Ukrainian group” was responsible for the bombing of the Nord Stream natural gas pipelines on Sept. 26, 2022.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin described the pipelines as “vital cross-border infrastructure projects,” whose destruction had a “serious impact on the global energy market and ecological environment.” China wants “an objective, impartial and professional investigation” into the bombing and wants those responsible held to account. The sooner the better, he added.
